All materials may be renewed if there are no holds on the item. The X̱wi7x̱wa book return is located outside the front door. X̱wi7x̱wa library materials may be returned at any UBC campus library. Overdue fines are $1.00 per day per item.

The X̱wi7x̱wa Library, and all UBC libraries, are open to the public.

At Koerner Library, Alumni Borrower Library cards are available, and Community Borrower Library cards are available for purchase. NITEP students may activate UBC Library distance borrower privileges from a NITEP Field Centre.

New: Aboriginal Community Borrower cards are now available. Visit the website for more information (please select the Aboriginal Community tab). Due to COVID the registration process has changed. The Aboriginal Borrower card will still be available to eligible patrons but the library now has a new procedure to activate the accounts. Please see below for instructions:

  1. Eligible patrons who contact librarians at X̱wi7x̱wa Library requesting library privileges will have their email forwarded to Koerner library (library.cards@ubc.ca)
  2. The Aboriginal Borrower application form will then be emailed to patrons to be completed and must be returned by email as a PDF to library.cards@ubc.ca
  3. The account details will then be emailed to patrons and instructions for picking up their physical library card at Koerner library will be provided by email
  4. Patrons will need to provide ID to confirm their contact details provided on the application form when they collect their library card and sign the application form, unless a digital signature is used on the completed form when it’s returned by email
  5. Applications will be processed within approximately 3-5 business days

Please note it is preferred to have a contact point (X̱wi7x̱wa Library) for this process. Please email xwi7xwa.library@ubc.ca so we can connect with you. The library card will allow most physical books to be borrowed but eResource access is still restricted to current students, staff and faculty. Patrons may still be able to request Interlibrary Loan articles though and physical books for short term loan.

Materials circulate on the UBC Library circulation system which offers online renewals and holds to patrons. To renew by telephone, call 604-822-8738.
