Access Xwi7xwa Resources during closure: updated Feb. 7
Looking for access to our print collections? Although we are closed during construction you can still order our resources from our branch using the Document Delivery system.
Step 1. Locate the item you would like to take out on loan:
Step 2. Under the “Action” column (right side) select the option “Order via Document Delivery”:
Step 3. Sign in using your Campus Wide Login (CWL) or Library Card, authenticate using Duo Push account (if these are new to you please click the hyperlinks), sign in as either student/employee.
Step 4. Select the holding and “Create Loan Request”:
(NOTE: vertical files & special collections do not circulate; see Special Collections below to access these resources)
Step 5. Enter your name, contact information, and under Location select desired UBC Library location for pick-up, and click Submit.

Special Collections (SP) & Vertical Files (VF) items:
SP & VF items cannot circulate but you can view them in the Elder’s Lounge of 1985 West Mall, First Nations House of Learning Longhouse Monday-Friday 11AM-3PM. If these hours do not work please contact us access.xwi@ubc.ca .
While the branch is closed patrons can access resources by:
Step 1. Locate the item you are interested in, collect as much information about the item as possible (title, author, publication date) OR simply collect the item’s permalink:
- the item’s information or permalink
- your name, student number, or library barcode
Step 2. Email access.xwi@ubc.ca with the above information.
Once we have received your request we will send a confirmation email and when the item will be available to you.

August 30, 2021 – Update
Due to construction at the First Nations House of Learning Longhouse Xwi7xwa Library will remain closed. Beginning September 7th, staff will be at the Longhouse from Monday to Friday 8:30AM-4:30PM. We have dedicated research hours from 11AM-3PM and encourage folks to contact us ahead of time at xwi7xwa.library@ubc.ca or karleen.delaurer-lyle@ubc.ca . Print resources from our collection will be made available and details on how to access resources are forthcoming.
October 14, 2020 – Update
Materials Pick-Up Service, a first-hand experience with Librarian Karleen!
Need access to print resources? So do we, even the librarians are using UBC Library’s pick-up service! To place an order you will need to know your Campus Wide Login (CWL) and then a Duo Push account (if these are new to you please click the hyperlinks), then follow these steps to place an order.
Once you’ve placed an order online you’ll receive a confirmation email with: a request number (we recommend writing this down in case there’s an issue with your order) and the dates your order is available for pick up!
Remember to bring:
- a mask, they’re mandatory at UBC campuses
- your student/staff/faculty ID
Location: Resource pick-up is at the Koerner Library!
Hours: See Koerner’s hours here.
Procedure:
- When you arrive at Koerner use the blue circles on the ground to line up 2 metres apart
- At the front door there’s a table (ring the bell if no one is there), allow the patron in front of you time to leave the table and the staff time to clean it
- Wait for the staff to move back, put your ID on the table, step back
- The staff will go get your order and place it on the table
- Grab your resources and you are good to go

Due to current closures and conditions because of Covid 19 and UBC’s decision to move classes to online, UBC library is making changes to hours, lending processes, and fine policies.

Many of our library staff are working from home and are available through email at xwi7xwa.library@ubc.ca
We are able to answer reference questions, find online materials for papers & research topics, and find alternative materials to items only available in print.
The library will cancel late fees from March 16 until the situation changes. Please do not come to campus to return or renew library materials.
