Métis Week 2025 is November 15-22

What is Métis Week?
Métis Week holds a special place in the hearts of the Métis people.
It provides an opportunity to celebrate our rich culture, history, and resilience, while also commemorating Louis Riel’s wrongful execution and honouring his enduring legacy.
This week serves as a reminder of the accomplishments of our ancestors and us, motivating us to continue striving for the full recognition of our rights. It is a time to come together as a community and nurture our connections with one another as a people and as a Nation.
Why mid-November?
On Nov. 16, 1885, Métis leader Louis Riel, who led the Red River and North-West Métis resistance in defense of Métis rights, was executed for treason. To coincide with Louis Riel Day, the Métis Nation of Alberta (MNA) has declared the week surrounding the anniversary of Riel’s execution as Métis Week, a time to honour and pay tribute to Métis cultural heritage in Canada.
