Arts Multilingual Week 2025

Faculty of Arts Multilingual Week 2025

The Peña Room at IKBLC will be full of student-centered activities to celebrate the many languages spoken at UBC and beyond, from March 6 – 14. For more information and schedule, visit the Arts website or follow them on Instagram.

We are contributing resources from our collection to 3 pop ups happening this week from 11AM to 1PM:

Want to learn some quick words and phrases in hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓, the language of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Nation? Langley Schools has a webpage with some short videos so you can learn how to count to 20, sing happy birthday, or even talk to someone about your gardening in hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓!

To learn more about Indigenous languages, check out our resources aplenty at Xwi7xwa Library! If you’re looking for books at our branch, start by looking at our Call Numbers that start with “X” on the first line. This entire section is dedicated to language learning resources, including grammar reference guides, dictionaries, children’s books, and story anthologies. If you’re looking for curriculum materials and/or developed lesson plans for language learning for children, you should pay attention to our section whose Call Numbers start with “E” for “Education.”

To search for language learning books before you come into the library, go to xwi7xwa.library.ubc.ca and try searching:

  • language
  • language AND lesson
  • language learning
  • language AND children

If you’re more interested in language revitalization and the study of endangered languages, search for:
