Group Visits

We love sharing information about our lovely branch, so we welcome groups, classes, and tours to come check us out and chat about what we can offer you! To make your visit to our branch the absolute best it can be, make sure to fill out a request form to make an appointment with us.

Please do not drop in without prior notification if you are coming with a group.

Why make an appointment?

  • Personalization 📝👩🏽‍🏫 – We offer many services in a wide range of subject areas. Let’s pin down what exactly you need from your visit by providing us some general info about your group.
  • The wholesome experience ☕💕– We want each and every one of you to walk out of Xwi7xwa Library with a cup of tea, a snack, a book you want to read, and that warm fuzzy feeling of support from us. We do more than point you toward a book you’re looking for, and we want you to know! Give us time to fully prepare for your visit so you leave feeling like you can come back to Xwi7xwa anytime.
  • Accommodations 🦽🦯– Not everyone is able to or comfortable with squeezing in between shelves like a can of packed sardines. Each person has different comfort levels with noise, space, and social proximity. Help us make everyone feel safe by letting us know who is visiting Xwi7xwa.

“But there are only a few of us!”

Our branch is super small. Xwi7xwa Library is the second smallest branch of the UBC Library system. We have four tables, each able to seat 2-4 people, two reference computers, and only three bookshelves!

The wall along the side curves, drawing attention to the length of the space. A small rolling cart sits next to the first bookshelf with a kettle, some tea, and a basket of snacks.

We work hard to make the best possible use of our limited space. Xwi7xwa is cozy, as our primary goal is to provide a comfortable place for people to research and study. A big part of this is making sure there is room to breathe and a relatively quiet, calm atmosphere to allow for focus and learning.

When we are aware a group is coming to visit, we will let our patrons know ahead of time so they can be prepared – grab earplugs, move to a quieter location, make space within themselves to accept a change in their environment, etc. Our patrons’ well-being is top priority. Please respect the space and our community by helping us prepare for your visit.

Help us help you

Not only is our space small, but our team is limited in size. Our Indigenous Librarians – Kayla, Karleen, and Taya – have a wealth of knowledge of and endless support for engaging in Indigenous research/study. Because of their expertise, they are quite in demand! The last thing we want is to be unable to fully assist you when you visit us because we are in a meeting or working on a time-sensitive project. We will make time for your visit, but we can promise this only if we know you’re coming!

We want your experience to be the best it can be. Even if it is an informal visit, let us know when you’re coming and how many people to expect so that your time at Xwi7xwa Library can be fruitful!
